Genetic Basis of Biodiversity
This course aims to explore the genetic foundations of biodiversity at different levels, from the molecular level to populations and species. It covers the mechanisms underlying genetic variation, including mutations, recombination, genetic drift, gene flow, and natural selection, and their roles in evolution and population differentiation. The course also introduces methods for studying genetic diversity, particularly molecular markers and DNA sequencing, and their applications in population characterization, species identification, and biodiversity conservation. It emphasizes the importance of genetic diversity in organismal adaptation, population resilience, and the sustainable management of biological resources.
